It consists of 2 spacious air-conditioned bedrooms, each with well appointed ensuite bathrooms.

The bright, white walled fan-cooled living, kitchen and dining areas have natural accents and eye-catching art works.

Included are TV, DVD player, ipod dock and sound system.  Multiple wood framed glass doors open onto a lush private walled gardens and infinity pool with sun lounges.

Breakfast is served at the rooftop, covered open-air bale where majestic green fields and verdant foliage abound.  The rooftop bale is a perfect spot for morning yoga or quiet morning reflection.

An approximate 15 minute walk to Monkey Forest Road as well as various spa’s and restaurants makes the Villa Jumah Bisma well positioned.  Nearby restaurants also home deliver thereby allowing visitors the privilege of enjoying the villa completely, if they so chose.

Reliable housekeeping staff clean daily and cook breakfast in a separate kitchen to the villa thereby maintaining a discrete distance.  (Uniformed night security are also provided).

Indonesian born, Nyoman and his Dutch born wife are the owners.  They truly do keep these newly built villas in immaculate condition.

A popular Ubud attraction….

The Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud is beautiful and definitely worth a visit.

The monkeys are interesting. The temples are great. The walkway down to the river and across a the bridge is scenic.

It is a lovely opportunity to see families of monkeys, including lots of baby monkeys with their mothers. The monkeys are used to tourists unlike in other areas of Bali, so unless you have food to attract them, the Guides are generally quite good at ensuring the monkeys keep their distance.

Entry fee is 20,000 pp (for the day). It is worth it just to walk around to break the pace of life outside.  It is quite cool and lush within the forest with lots of great photo opportunities.

Note:  DO NOT bring or consume food anywhere in or close by the forest.  Monkeys can be aggressive if you have food.

On trend – stylish PIMENT ROUGE for homewares…

PIMENT ROUGE – Homewares

When it comes to homewares, Bali is on trend. A few years ago, when building a new house in Australia, I topped up my container of imported goods with assorted purchases from the very stylish “Piment Rouge” homeware store. Unique decorator items are sold here including soft furnishings, bed linens and furniture.

Bedside lamps, placemats and table runners, ornaments, vases, paintings and various unique items I had not seen elsewhere, I enthusiastically purchased at bargain basement prices. I am still so thrilled with the items – each holding a special memory of the time I sourced them.

On each return trip to Bali, I never fail to stop in at Piment Rouge – usually on Monkey Forest Road, Ubud or Jalan Raya Seminyak.

Pigment Rouge’s Factory showroom is at Jl. Serangan No 3, Pengubengan Kauh, Kerobokan, telephone: 0361 738 411. Retail stores include Jl. Raya Seminyak 60X, Seminyak; and Jl. Purabagus Taruna No 513, Legian.

A “Must Do” Ubud experience….

image: balibikebaik

Getting a little “off the beaten track” in Bali is always a treat!  One of the best ways to do this is to join a cycling group through the streets of outer Ubud.

I first enjoyed the Bali Bike Baik tour nearly a decade ago, when it was newly formed and the owner Wayan hosted the tour himself.  I was travelling with my children at the time and it was a memorable, happy and full day out.

The second occasion was more recently when I travelled with a longtime girlfriend.  This was another remarkable day, where I witnessed first hand the blossoming of Wayan’s business after a decade of hard work.

An early AM pickup from your hotel sees you arrive at a coffee plantation, enjoy a smorgasbord breakfast overlooking Mt Batur, cycle mostly down-hill, riding through local villages, rice paddies and schools and back to a delicious buffet feast at the owner, Wayan’s compound.  Wayan’s talented wife and family cook incredibly tasty dishes.  There was more than we could eat!

It was delightful to be greeted by children in villages running out to say “Halo” and offering “high 5’s” as you ride along village roads. Comfortable, frequent stops with cold towels and water is offered. All of this with the safety of an air-conditioned backup vehicle following, should you tire.

A delightful day & great value for money! A truly wonderfull way to experience outer Ubud and receive local information along the way. So informative and scenic as well as 100% owned & operated by Balinese!

On both occasions, this cycling tour was one of the highlights of our trip.  A truly wonderful experience and well recommended!!

Hidden Coffee Gem in downtown Ubud!

For delicious juices, fresh coffee and lunches this oasis of “quaint and casual” can be found hidden in a small side street between Jl. Hanoman and Jl. Monkey Forest.
Seniman Coffee Studio can be likened to a  little “laboratory” of coffee where each cup is Barista brewed then hand poured, while you wait.
Enjoy detox beetroot, ginger, lime juices as well as egg breakfasts and lunchtime Paganini.

Lounge in comfy sofas or homemade rocking chairs.  Settle in with the fast and efficient wifi.

A Spiritual Experience: Bali’s holiest spring….

This is the site of Bali’s holiest spring. Located 18km north of Ubud, in Tampaksiring. The spring waters are believed to be healing: curing ailments and preventing bad dreams.

Behind the bathing pools is a temple with a large array of intricately carved and painted temple pavilions. Inside the Balinese pray and a priest directs the order of prayer with chanting and the ringing of a bell.

Tirta Empul is a pleasant and restful place to view: a spiritual experience.

Note: For those wanting to bathe, it’s recommended that you hire a guide before arriving as there is a “respectful” process to follow.
