STOP Thief!!!!

It is a sad fact of life that thieves exist in all parts of the world, including the island of Bali.

Some safety tips to keep  in mind to help protect yourself and your valuables are as follows:

To protect yourself:

  • Keep the door to your room locked at all times. If you are inside the room, turn the deadbolt and fasten the security chain.  Take a rubber door wedge with you whilst travelling and use it between the floor and the inside of the door.
  • When you leave your hotel room, pull the door completely closed behind you. Make sure the latch has engaged. Take a moment before you leave to try the door and make sure it is closed and locked.  Leave the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the doorknob as if you are inside. Leave the tv or radio playing and lights on. Close your blinds before you leave your room.
  • Do not open your door to strangers. Use the security viewport to see who is outside your door. Do not trust someone claiming to be a hotel employee if you are not expecting one. If you are unsure, call the front desk to check. Leave the security chain engaged while opening the door for further protection.
  • When entering or leaving the hotel after dark, use the main entrance.
  • Follow a friends advice and stack several glasses on the floor inside the door so that you will hear them fall if the door is opened whilst you’re sleeping
  • If you travel often, consider buying a portable alarm system to hang on the doorknob for added protection. These movement-sensitive devices can awaken you if a door lock should happen to fail.

To protect your valuables:

  • Keep your suitcase locked.
  • Use the safe provided in the room to store keys, wallets, extra cash and credit cards, jewellery, ipads and other small valuable items you are leaving in the room.  As a extra precaution, wipe safe keypad with alcohol wipe to remove your finger marks.
  • If no safe is supplied, check with the front desk. They may have locked storage available for your use.
  • Don’t leave cash, travellers cheques, credit cards and expensive electronics and jewellery lying around the room.
  • Leave larger expensive or breakable objects at home, if possible. If you must bring them, store them in the closet and out of the way of the cleaning crew.

By using your common sense and taking a few precautions while travelling, you can help to protect yourself and your loved ones from danger and hang on to your possessions.

If you do have the misfortune of a theft, you must report it to the Police to claim on your Travel Insurance.

The ultimate charming, quiet boutique hotel !!

The ‘feel’ of the hotel is exclusive, classy and quiet without the price tag being too high. If you don’t mind not being on the beach (the beach is about 5mins away), the Colony could be the hotel for you.

It’s a charming and personable all-white boutique hotel with just 20 rooms. I recommend it for solo travellers, couples, or a girlie group.

The Colony is located directly across the street from Samaya and just up from The Legian, so an excellent position on Jalan Oberoi. It’s only a few minutes walk to some of the best restaurants, beach clubs and bars (La Lucciola, KuDeTa, Potato Head) and the main strip of shops.

The hotel is set back from the street so there is no noise whatsoever making it a peaceful haven in what can be a rather noisy road in Seminyak. The hotel has built an extension on the front of the hotel which is going to be their main restaurant but is not yet open. The rooms are built around a central courtyard that houses a small swimming pool and the breakfast area as well as a few sun loungers and tables.

The breakfast is served daily on the terrace poolside. Not a huge selection but adequate and well-prepared. The staff are are polite and efficient and do their job very well.

The rooms are absolutely spotless, as is the whole hotel.

Note 1:  The Colony does not accept children under 16 years

Note 2:  The Frangipani bathroom amenities are a nice touch

Note 3:  Breakfast stretches from 7-11am
